Theme: Grief

Some of the most important worship I've ever led has been in the presence of grief — memorial services, hospital chapels, the Sunday after tragedy. Songs that hold grief with faith are not a betrayal of either — they're the fullest possible expression of what the cross means. Jesus wept at Lazarus' tomb and then He raised him. The Christian tradition has always made space for the full arc: lament, grief, and hope held together without forcing resolution before it's ready. These songs give voice to what is real without leaving people there. They're essential for any worship leader who takes seriously the pastoral function of what we do. Grief songs sung in community are a profound form of bearing one another's burdens.
