Words That Build
Ephesians 4:29
Ephesians says, “Let no corrupt communication come out of your mouth.”
That sounds intense, but it is practical.
Corrupt words are words that decay the room.
They do not have to be hateful to be harmful. They can be subtle. They can be disguised as humor. They can be spiritualized critique. They can be the habit of always pointing out what is wrong.
Paul gives the alternative.
Speak what is good for building up. Speak what fits the moment. Speak what gives grace.
That is a culture decision.
A worship leader sets the tone by what they tolerate and what they repeat. If every rehearsal is mostly correction, people will eventually protect themselves. They will play safe. They will disengage. They will stop bringing their whole heart.
But if your words build, people grow.
You can still correct. You can still pursue excellence. But you do it with grace. You do it with care. You do it like you are shepherding people, not managing parts.
Before you speak today, ask one question.
Will this build up, or will this break down.
Let your words give grace.

Holy Spirit, put a guard over our mouths. Teach us to speak words that give grace and build faith. Make our team a place where people leave stronger than they arrived.
