Costly Worship
2 Samuel 24:24
David says something that cuts through all the noise.
“I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God which cost me nothing.”
Cost is not a punishment. It is a revealer.
It reveals what you value. It reveals what you trust. It reveals what you worship.
Worship teams can accidentally build a culture where worship is what happens when everything goes right. When the band is tight. When the mix is clean. When the energy is strong. When the room responds.
But David is talking about something deeper.
Worship is what you offer God even when it costs you comfort, recognition, or control.
Sometimes the cost is repentance. Sometimes it is humility. Sometimes it is forgiving someone on your team. Sometimes it is showing up with joy when you feel heavy. Sometimes it is letting go of the need to be noticed.
If worship only works when it is easy, it is not worship. It is management.
This week, lead your team into worship that costs something. Not because God needs it, but because your hearts do.

Prayer
God, give us worship that is real. Teach us to offer You our whole hearts, not leftovers. Help us lead from love, not from fear, and from surrender, not from striving.
