Teach and Admonish

Colossians 3:16

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.”

Paul ties that to singing.

Songs are not just atmosphere. They are theology that people carry home. They become prayers in the car. They become comfort in grief. They become language for faith when words are hard.

That means congregational worship is not mainly about volume or energy. It is about formation.

When the room is not singing, it might not be a passion problem. It might be a clarity problem. Or a key problem. Or a familiarity problem. Or a trust problem.

But underneath all of that, the question is simple.

Is the word of Christ dwelling richly in the songs we are leading.

This week, do not just ask, “Will this be a moment.”

Ask, “Will this form people.”

Then lead in a way that helps the room carry the word together.

Discussion Questions

  1. What are we teaching our church through the songs we choose.
  2. Where have we been aiming for a moment instead of aiming for formation.
  3. What is one small change we could make to help the room participate more fully.

Prayer

Jesus, let Your word dwell in us richly. Help us choose songs that form people in truth and love. Teach us to lead in a way that invites participation, not spectatorship.
