Theme: Steadfast

Steadfastness is the long-distance attribute of faith — the quality that holds on when holding on is hard, that keeps believing when circumstances argue against belief. Songs about God's steadfast love draw from one of the most repeated phrases in the Old Testament: his lovingkindness, his hesed, his covenant faithfulness that endures forever. They celebrate a God who does not waver, does not change his mind, does not love conditionally or inconsistently. For a church made up of imperfect, inconsistent people, singing about a steadfast God is deeply stabilizing. It anchors identity not in the ups and downs of personal faithfulness but in the unshakeable constancy of the One who has bound himself to his people by covenant.
