Theme: Legacy

One of the great privileges of a long ministry is watching what gets passed down. Songs about legacy are about the faith of the fathers and mothers, the heritage entrusted to us, and the seeds we are planting for the generation that follows. They cultivate a sense of continuity with the larger story of the church — the cloud of witnesses cheering us on, the saints who paid a price for the faith we now hold. I find these songs particularly moving in multigenerational contexts, in services honoring longtime members, or when the congregation is navigating significant institutional transitions. They remind us that we are not starting from scratch — we are stewards of an inheritance, and we are building something for those who come after us.
