Theme: Goodness Of God

If I could choose one theological truth for the whole church to deeply, unshakably believe, it might be the goodness of God. So much pain, doubt, and spiritual paralysis flows from the underlying suspicion that God might not really be good — that He's at best indifferent and at worst withholding. Songs about the goodness of God push back against that shadow with sustained, evidence-based joy. They call the congregation to rehearse the kindnesses of God, the specific mercies that dot their history, the character of a Father who is genuinely, ontologically, and inexhaustibly good. I've watched these songs do more than almost anything else to heal a congregation's relationship with God and rebuild a faith that suffering has tested.
