Theme: Father Heart Of God

One of the most transformative shifts that can happen in a congregation is moving from seeing God primarily as judge or taskmaster to knowing Him as Father. Songs about the father heart of God do deep healing work, particularly for people whose earthly fathers were absent, abusive, or simply not present in the ways they needed. These songs carry the gentleness of Jesus' parable of the prodigal — the running father, the robe and ring, the feast — and they help people receive what their hearts most need: to know they are wanted, delighted in, and fully at home. After twenty-five years of leading worship, I'm convinced this is some of the most important pastoral work a worship set can accomplish. Father songs heal wounds that sermons sometimes can't reach.
