Theme: Deliverance

Deliverance is one of the New Testament's central categories for describing what Jesus accomplished — He came to set the captives free, to proclaim liberty, to loose what had been bound. Songs about deliverance help congregations appropriate this for their own lives and the lives of people they're interceding for. I've used these songs in prayer services with powerful effect, particularly when the community is standing in the gap for someone in bondage. But they're also deeply personal — every believer has areas of life where the freedom Christ purchased needs to be actively received. These songs function as both testimony and proclamation, celebrating what has been won and declaring its availability to anyone who will reach out and take it.
