Theme: Church Mission

The church exists for those who aren't yet in it — that's the scandalous missionary logic of the kingdom. Songs about church mission call the congregation beyond the instinct of self-preservation toward the outward, apostolic movement of a community sent into the world. I've used these songs at missional moments: before outreach initiatives, at the start of church planting processes, in services designed to stir the congregation's sense of calling to the city and the nations. They do the important work of keeping mission central rather than optional, and of helping the congregation understand that worship and witness are not competing priorities — genuine encounter with God always produces outward movement and generosity.
